When was the last time you gave your site a check-up? If it’s been a while, there’s no better time than now!


1. Broken Links

Broken links happen when a webpage or resource a hyperlink points to is no longer accessible. This can be due to deleted or moved pages, incorrect URLs, website updates, or changes in third-party content. Server issues, expired content, and missing media files also contribute to the problem.


Broken links disrupt user experience, frustrate visitors, and increase bounce rates. They also hurt SEO rankings, making a site appear outdated or poorly maintained. For businesses, this means lost traffic, missed conversions, and a decline in credibility.


Regular maintenance is key to preventing broken links. Use tools like Google Search Console or Broken Link Checker to spot issues, set up 301 redirects for moved pages, and update outdated links. Keeping your website clean and optimized ensures seamless navigation, better search rankings, and a more professional online presence.


Bonus tip: If a link sends someone away from your site (like to a recommended book or article), make sure it opens in a new tab. That way, they don’t lose their place on your site. It’s a simple setting when creating links, but it makes a big difference.



2. Comb Through and Revise Content

When was the last time you really reviewed your website? Does it still reflect your brand? Is your message clear?


Ask yourself:

  • Can a new visitor instantly understand what you do?

  • Is your contact info easy to find?

  • Does your branding feel consistent across every page?


I look for font inconsistencies, awkward spacing, and off-brand links. Some content may be outdated or irrelevant—it should be polished, professional, and aligned with your vision.


3. Upgrade Your Graphics


Let's be real:

  • Is your logo looking pixelated or blurry?

  • Still using outdated headshots?

  • Stuck with generic stock photos that don’t reflect your brand?


High-quality visuals matter. If anything looks fuzzy, off-brand, or just plain dull, it’s time for a refresh.


4. Test Across All Devices

A responsive website isn’t optional—it’s essential. It should look great and work smoothly on any device—desktop, tablet, or phone. With most visitors browsing from their phones, mobile-friendliness is a must.


Take a quick test:

  • Is your site easy to read?

  • Do images and text resize properly?

  • Can you navigate without pinching and zooming?


If not, it’s time for an upgrade!


5. Don’t Ignore the Backend

Your website’s backend needs just as much attention as the front. No matter your platform, check for:

  • Unused plugins slowing things down

  • Outdated software that needs updating

  • Performance issues making your site load too slowly
